Colorado Springs Airport: Convenient, Friendly + Affordable

Colorado Springs Airport is bringing the joy back to travel.

The state’s second-busiest airport is big enough to offer multiple nonstop flights on five carriers, yet small enough to be comfortable and friendly with advantages like low-cost, convenient parking and an effortless stroll to its 12 departure gates.

COS is proud of its moniker: Colorado’s Small Airport.

“When it comes to airports, small is great. It means short lines and short waits,” says Greg Phillips, COS Director of Aviation. “More importantly, it means an atmosphere that’s friendly and inviting.”

Clean, easily accessible restrooms and pet relief stations. Plenty of comfortable seating. Two coffee shops. A taproom. A food court. A market with grab-and-go options. Well-stocked shops. Even a frozen yogurt robot. Everything you need to start your trip out right.

COS made big news in 2021 by adding Southwest Airlines to its commercial carrier lineup that also includes American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Frontier Airlines and United Airlines. These carriers provide affordable, nonstop flights to eight popular destinations–Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Phoenix and Salt Lake City–as well as connecting flights to countless other cities.

Local residents are discovering the secret. In 2021, nearly a million seats were booked out of COS by business and leisure travelers—the most enplanements since 2008.

“We offer great flight options to major hubs with easy connections,” Phillips says. “By welcoming Southwest Airlines, added routes and great fares mean even more reasons to love your local airport.”

COS is a just a short drive away, opening up various easy options, including having a friend drop you off, taking a quick taxi or rideshare or driving yourself and leaving your car in the parking lot that’s only a short walk to the terminal. Why fight traffic or pay tolls?

Remember when flying was half the adventure? Over the last few decades, air travel has become a chore—a necessary evil to get from point A to point B. Traveling through COS is putting the fun and excitement back into travel!

COS not only saw growth in traffic, but the airport’s business park, as well. Peak Innovation Park had substantial development in 2021 with multiple construction and infrastructure projects to accommodate future growth. Further improvements are planned for 2022, as well as a hotel development. Peak Innovation Park is actively supporting the development and growth of the southeast corridor of Colorado Springs, where 80916 has been identified as the hottest zip code for real estate in the country.

Airport employees were another cause for celebration in 2021. COS was named one of The Gazette’s Best Workplaces for 2021 for large companies that are creating a strong and healthy workplace culture. Honorees are voted on by the employees via a survey that addresses topics like organization health, leadership, employee engagement and work-life balance.

Colorado’s small airport has seen big growth and development in the last year. Even with this growth, however, COS remains a small, relaxed airport that offers short walks and lines, close and affordable parking, an easy terminal to navigate, friendliness and convenience.

“If you’re ready to fly, I invite you to ease back into things at our airport,” Phillips says. “Given our competitive fares and convenient location, you can see why COS is the best choice.”
