Dripping Springs Community Library (DSCL) is fundraising to build a new library building to meet the needs of the growing population in Dripping Springs. Instead of traditional donor recognition through something like brick pavers, DSCL has partnered with renowned Texas glass artist Carlyn Ray to create a permanent art display featuring glass butterflies in the new library. Donors can sponsor a butterfly and create a unique design with Ray’s guidance.
On September 29, DSCL and Ray held their first butterfly design workshop at Deep Eddy Vodka’s tasting room. Ray taught participants how to work with glass to create their own butterfly designs, urging donors to reflect on what the library means to them and transform those emotions into art. The collective power of creativity and community helps form something meaningful, unique, and beautiful. “Having more hands and hearts involved creates a display that is even more special and significant to represent this community,” says Ray.
“The mission of the library is to promote lifelong learning. Learning truly transforms us—the same way that a caterpillar is transformed into a butterfly,” says Sarah Rose, DSCL capital campaign manager. “The generosity is developing our library into a central hub brimming with opportunities for everyone that will transform our community.”
