For Dr. Kelsey and Dr. Colton Wood, the decision to open True Light Chiropractic in Celina was a journey rooted in both professional focus and personal vision. The couple, both passionate about natural health care, opened their doors in 2019 with an aim to offer a practice in a community that not only valued health, but also nurtured family life. They wanted a small town with a welcoming, family-oriented fee – a place that mirrored their own values.
“There were young families everywhere and vendors, ‘This is exactly what we wanted.’ It was a small town where we could raise a family, where we felt safe,” Colton said. “We just felt pulled to Celina. So, we knew that's where we wanted to open.”
While True Light Chiropractic specializes in prenatal and pediatric care, the Woods have found that the men always end up following their families and experience transformative results. The Woods’ practice has changed dads' and husbands' health routines. Colton also explained how pregnancy is not just a mom matter, but a family matter that men play an important role in.
“[The birth process] gives men a fantastic opportunity to be a spiritual leader that your family needs. It’s important to be that rock and foundation whenever you're questioning things along the way,” Colton said. “The community of men that we have in our office, whether staff or patients, are all very engaged with their families. So normally when we go an alternative route to healthcare, it creates this natural engagement and community feel within your family but also [with] people around you.”
Chiropractic care for men is often seen as an afterthought, with most focus placed on treating women during pregnancy or babies for wellness checkups. But Colton and Kelsey have worked to shift that paradigm. They want men to know that they, too, can benefit from chiropractic care. Whether they’re looking to reduce stress, improve mobility, or simply feel better in their everyday life, True Light has solutions to fit the bill.
“As the dad, you're seen as the provider for the family. You're seen as the protector for the family. So, most of the time, they're under a lot of strain but they don't show that they're carrying that burden,” Colton said. “They actually have a lot of internal pressure, so when we're adjusting and going through care plans with dads, [it’s] more so to help them manage and adapt to their day-to-day stress. It leads to better sleep, less tension, less fatigue, being able to be present with your family, and even getting sick less often. That way, you're able to serve your family and you're able to serve the people around you better.”
One of the most rewarding aspects of their work, Colton says, is seeing the transformation in fathers. Many come to True Light Chiropractic with specific goals in mind, generally being centered on being more present for their families. “Many of the goals are around being able to play with their kids or being able to get on the ground with their baby and being able to get back up and not be in pain,” Colton said. “Through care, that just becomes normal for them, they forget that they weren't able to do that before. That is absolutely our favorite thing.”
The Woods are also passionate about creating community among the men in their office. They understand that health isn’t just about treatments, it’s about building relationships and offering support. That’s why Colton started Wellness on Tap, an informal gathering for the men of Celina and the surrounding areas to come together, share health tips, and build connections.
“I thought, let's create a community for the men of the area, including the office, that way they can meet talk about wellness things, talk about lifestyle habits.’” Colton said. “It kind of sparked, too. I think at the beginning of the year, we're going to start the 75 Hard Challenge, which is an intense mental health challenge. I think all the guys in the office are going to try and see if they want to do that.”
Through events like Wellness on Tap and their practice’s consistent care, Colton and Kelsey are fostering a culture of support, where men feel comfortable talking about their health and well-being. For the Woods, True Light Chiropractic isn’t just about adjusting spines, it’s about adjusting mindsets, creating a community, and helping men lead healthier, happier lives for the benefit of their families and themselves.
“We really get to develop good relationships with [patients], and they honestly become more like family in our office, so that is also another thing that just fulfills us so much,” Colton said. “We see them around town, and it's like, ‘That's the exact reason why we wanted to come to Celina because we knew we would develop a deeper relationship with people.' To get to see them out and about and in town but also in our office, that's what it's all about.”
