Tutor Doctor Helps Kids' Progress Academically In-Person and Online from the Comfort of Your Home

For local Tutor Doctor owner Seda Hulagu, helping kids become successful in school is a passionate endeavor.

“We love what we do, we love taking care of the kids and seeing their progress,” she says.

The in-home and online tutoring service matches highly-qualified academic tutors with families who want to help their kids catch up or get ahead in school. Tutors work across all subjects, all age groups and help students with specific needs such as autism, ADHD or learning disabilities. They also help high schoolers with SAT or ACT test prep. The company has been around more than 15 years and employs more than 28,000 tutors worldwide.

Tutor Doctor isn’t just about homework help, Seda says. It’s about helping students identify learning gaps and using carefully-selected tutors to deliver targeted lessons. Parents don’t have to worry about issuing worksheets or prepping lessons. Tutors come equipped with materials based on each student’s need. Tutors can also teach study skills, help students get organized or coach parents how to help their child.

“The main idea should be teaching them how to study, how to understand the teachers in the classroom and to study by themselves,” Seda says.

One parent, Tabbatha Lagares, saw tremendous improvement with her eight-year-old son, Elijah, after Tutor Doctor worked with him for several months. Elijah, who has ADHD, improved his reading level and made honor roll. Elijah’s tutors even coached Tabbatha on how to deal with Elijah’s ADHD and were dedicated to helping him succeed.

“She was just hands-down amazing with him in so many ways,” she says, describing Elijah’s first tutor.
