Uncovering Fort Worth's Top Adventure Spots

Fort Worth offers a wealth of opportunities for adventure, from serene lakeside fishing to weekend camping trips that allow individuals time to recharge and step away from the hustle and bustle. Adventure is not always about complexity; sometimes, it is about stepping outside and rediscovering what makes life meaningful. Whether it is the thrill of a new experience or the peace of solitude, adventure offers the freedom to live fully and embrace the present.

 GOLF COURSES

1.   Cowboys Golf Club: Located in Grapevine, just north of DFW Airport, Cowboys Golf Club is a premier destination known for its excellent course conditions and top-notch customer service. This all-inclusive resort property is also recognized as the world’s first NFL-themed golf club, featuring course markers and clubhouse displays celebrating the history and memorabilia of the Dallas Cowboys.

2.   Texas Rangers Golf Club: Part of Arlington’s Entertainment district, the Texas Rangers Golf Club is the only MLB-branded golf course and opened in 2019. Featuring over 55 feet of elevation change, the course offers a dynamic mixture of short and long holes. The top rate facilities boast a modern design that accommodates a wide range of skill levels.

3.   Rockwood Park Golf Course: One of the City of Fort Worth’s elite public courses, Rockwood Park Golf Course is located on the eastern side of downtown. Recently renovated in 2017, the course has four sets of tees and plays to a Par 72. With scenic views and a lovely clubhouse patio, it’s a favorite among local players

MOUNTAIN BIKING TRAILS

1.        Marion Sansom Park- A mix of intermediate and expert trails wind through wooded areas, looping around Marion Sansom Park, which sits between Lake Worth and the West Fork of the Trinity River. The 11 miles of trails, maintained by the Fort Worth Mountain Bike Association, provide scenic views of the park, steep hills, and a waterfall.

2.        Northshore Trail: One of the most popular trails in the metroplex, Northshore features over 22 miles of paths around Grapevine Lake. The eastern section is ideal for intermediate riders and with its relatively flat terrain, while the western section is more technical, with a variety of challenging landscapes, diverse terrain, and descents with jumps.

3.        Gateway Park: Along the West Fork of the Trinity River, Gateway Park offers 7 miles of trails designed for both beginner and intermediate mountain bikers on both the east and west side of the Trinity River. As riders explore Fort Worth’s only metropolitan park, bikers can also enjoy views of a dog park, sporting fields, and picnic areas.

FISHING SPOTS

1.      Greenbriar Lake: Stocked with channel catfish, bluegill sunfish, green sunfish, largemouth bass, and rainbow trout, Greenbriar Park offers a year-round family friendly fishing experience complete with picnic tables, parking, and restrooms. As part of Texas Parks & Wildlife Neighborhood Fishin’ initiative, Greenbriar Lake is restocked every two to four weeks with fish big enough to catch and keep.  

2.     Marine Creek Lake: This tributary of the Trinity River in northwest Fort Worth holds a collection of sunfish, white crappie, largemouth bass, spotted bass, and channel catfish. Marine Creek Lake is a no wake lake that is easily accessible with calm waters, a dock, and equipped with restrooms and water fountains.  

3.        Eagle Mountain Lake: Located on the west fork of the Trinity River, Eagle Mountain Lake is a popular spot for sport fishing, offering white crappie, channel and flathead catfish, as well as largemouth, spotted, and white bass. With both a public boat ramp and large beach, both boat owners and shore anglers can enjoy excellent fishing opportunities.

CAMPING SPOTS

1.        Cedar Hill State Park: Located on Joe Pool Lake, Cedar Hill State Park offers 350 developed campsites equipped with water, electricity, and convenient access to restrooms with hot showers. Visitors can enjoy a variety of outdoor activities, including hiking, biking, swimming, boating, fishing, and geocaching, making it an ideal destination for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. 

2.        Holiday Park Campground: On the west side of Benbrook Lake, Holiday Park Campground provides ample space for both RV and tent camping. The campground features clean bathrooms and offers easy access to  nearby hiking trails, fishing, and boating opportunities. With its welcoming and friendly staff, it promises a memorable and enjoyable stay for guests.

3.        Cleburne State Park: Located just south of Fort Worth, Cleburne State Park offers campsites with water and electricity for a comfortable outdoor experience. Visitors can also reserve screened shelter or cabins for added convenience.
