These days we have many different options for approaches to healthcare and wellness strategies. Within each of these options there are more options. This can make it tough to choose what route to take for each scenario you could face. Let’s take this opportunity to explain chiropractic from a high level and then my favorite approach, Chiropractic BioPhysics.
Doctors of Chiropractic are licensed by the state in which they practice. They have completed a four year doctorate program and passed a four part national board exam. The curriculum is heavy in anatomy and physiology, biomechanics, manual technique, and diagnosis/treatment of neuro-musculo-skeletal conditions. The chiropractic approach acknowledges that your body is innately intelligent and that interference in this system leads to various forms of disease. The aim of the chiropractor is to remove interference from the nervous system utilizing various techniques such as spinal manipulation (adjustments), therapeutic exercise, manual therapies, spinal traction, and other various modalities without the use of drugs or surgery. This is important because a healthy nervous system is vital to every function in the human body. The nervous system includes your brain, your spinal cord, and all of the nerves that leave your spine to perform their millions upon millions of duties. Helping you take good care of the structures that support and protect that system is the primary role of the chiropractor.
Chiropractic Biophysics, commonly referred to as CBP, is a specialized chiropractic technique that combines the principles of spinal biomechanics, physics, and engineering. Unlike many approaches that focus on pain relief, CBP places emphasis on structural correction of the spine. This correction then leads to the relief of pain without missing the root cause. We know from a plethora of research that a healthy spine is essential for overall health and that deviations from the ideal spine lead to a wide range of health issues beyond just musculoskeletal pain. Taking good care of that spine is something that oftentimes is overlooked, and I’d like to help change that.
Our team’s job is to help you improve your relationship with gravity. This is important not only to relieve pain and improve the function of your body but also to prevent injury and degenerative conditions that develop over time. We know that in our physical world the structure of something will determine its function. If the structure is compromised, so goes the function. Dysfunction over time leads to further degradation of the structure, and so on and so on. Interventions that support the normal structure of the body, and therefore the normal function, can have profound long-term effects on health and longevity. With CBP we analyze the spine and posture with precision and in great detail to create a specific plan for each patient. CBP then utilizes very specific exercises, manual adjustments, and tractions in order to restore the best spinal biomechanics for that patient.
Does chiropractic treat everything? Of course not. However, the research is clear that a healthy nervous system improves all health outcomes from all conditions. You can give your body an advantage by getting quality chiropractic care. And please check out IdealSpine.com for a wealth of information and research regarding spinal health. Don’t know what your spine looks like? Set up a new patient exam with a qualified CBP practitioner and create a plan to optimize your nervous system!
