Venice For The Holidays
A holiday poem by Norhala Houck
It is days before Christmas and all through the town
There is plenty of hustling and bustling around.
Nary a snowflake for hundreds of miles,
Instead you’ll be welcomed with warm coastal smiles.
Windows and trees boast sparkling lights and festive décor;
Treasures artfully displayed in each and every store.
Jolly shoppers stroll the avenue in search of a find,
Until they score just the perfect gift, a one-of-a-kind.
The snowbirds are singing and dancing a jig;
They bake cakes and cookies and puddings of fig.
Presents are piled high on spare beds with care,
In the hopes that the grandkids soon will be here.
Friends and families will gather near our famous pier --
A place dolphins, rays and turtles swim near.
Time spent on the beach encourages peace and relaxation,
A setting that proves fit for even the most special occasions.
Amongst all the trials, tribulations, and woes,
Let us find the kindness to forgive -- even our most worthy foes!
In Venice this Christmas, let joy and wonder abound;
Those who share in this place truly are the luckiest around.
