“Once you think you are greater than the music, you're done,” says Venice’s Harry Wright, known from Orlando to Fort Myers as "The Wright DJ" and by his loyal fans as "DJ Harry."
"You always have to put the music first and have fun. People see you're having fun, it’s contagious and everyone starts dancing,” he says.
Growing up in Chicago during house music's golden age, as a kid, DJ Harry was always banging on desktops and bongos, pursuing a passion for percussions. A Venice local for two decades, DJ Harry honed his craft as Galaxy Lanes' program director for 10 years and Bentley’s Hotel's resident DJ for five years. DJ Harry was recently tapped by the Atlanta Braves to play their new stadium home opener in late March. He plays at many local venues, has an open dance party group on Facebook with more than 400 members and provides music for all events large and small.
The resident DJ at Nokomis’ Paradise Grill for over a year, DJ Harry plays there every Friday night. In late April, the Paradise Grill crowd danced to his upbeat mixes including Motown, funk, disco, Top 40 and more, as well as Harry’s beloved Tom Petty. Kids enjoyed DJ Harry's hula hoops.
“I spin at community events, reunions, birthdays, weddings, school functions, everything,” Harry says. “I have been in the middle of the best parties for years now.”
