Trevor Cobb is many things: Founder and CEO of wealth management firm Avantia, father, car enthusiast (He’s been a track driving instructor, car collector, and currently serves on the board of America’s Automotive Trust), and former Airborne Ranger with the U.S. Army. Before founding Avantia in April of 2020, his career included tenures at The J.P. Morgan Private Bank, Goldman Sachs, and U.S. Trust. But before all of that, Cobb spent twelve years in the Army, where he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, the nation’s fourth highest combat award. He says the leadership principles he learned in the military apply to the corporate world as well.
In the Army, the ethos of “‘Hurry up and wait’ breeds preparedness and contingency planning for every scenario,” Cobb says. Evaluating different options to deal successfully with any eventuality serves his clients and himself well. Avantia provides a full roster of services to manage the entirety of each client family’s wealth, an approach they call “a Family Office Approach.” According to the company website, Avantia builds each client a “bespoke solution that is custom tailored to their family and situation that incorporates multiple areas of expertise. This includes – Wealth Planning and Coordination, Investing, Family Culture and Learning,” and more. Cobb attributes much of his success in the finance world to truly understanding the customer, “Every time I have a client, prospective client, or friend offer feedback, I take it seriously. I know how valuable that is,” he says.
