New York Times best-selling author, Mary Kay Andrews, is well acquainted with page turning books. She is known as the queen of beach reads and has penned 29 books, including her newly released, “Hello Summer.”
I had the chance to interview the prolific, personable author for her St. Louis County Library book signing of 2019’s “Sunset Beach.” Andrews tells me, “There’s a tiny bit of my DNA in each of my protagonists.”
Indeed, readers will find a bit of the former newspaper reporter in Conley Hawkins, the main character in “Hello Summer,” as well as her leading lady, Drue Campbell, in “Sunset Beach.” Romance, scandal and mystery unfold in each storyline. Both are tough to put down, quick reads and perfect for those lazy summer days. “The ultimate for me is to have a reader say, ‘Oh my God, I’ve got a book hangover!!' " laughs Andrews.
What I enjoy about interviewing authors is learning how they write. For "Sunset Beach", Andrews, who lives in Georgia, rented a cottage in Sunset Beach, Florida to get her inspiration. She's also into home renovating and is quite the chef! Her recipes can be found in her aptly named "Beach House Cookbook."
