Vintage Charm and Modern Luxury

Relaying a Home’s Story and Character

Sue Hewitson, a Realtor® with Fazendin Realtors, has been selling homes for over 20 years, and every once in a while, a particular home will capture her heart. It happened again recently when listing a classic English Tudor at 2757 Dean Parkway. With its dramatic roofline, slate-tile roof and 5,100 square feet of finished living space, the house is an impressive sight.

Although it was built in 1929, the house is modern and bright due to the many renovations that have recently taken place. “The current homeowners definitely put their stamp on this little charmer,” she says. “They worked with Chisel Architecture and expanded and really perfected what they felt is the heart of the home.” Since Tudor homes tend to be a bit on the darker side, another major goal of the renovation was to bring in a lot more natural light.

The remodel not only beautified and upgraded the home, but built a connection between the mudroom, the kitchen and the dining space for an open concept with a wonderful flow and increased functionality.

It also allowed easy access to the English style courtyard and garden, which make up the backyard. “It really does make you feel like you've been transported,” says Sue.

Of all the great features, she says her absolute favorite is the kitchen island. “It's made out of burled walnut and looks like a rare piece of furniture  - it just makes such a statement!” Her other favorites include the expansiveness and warmth of the home.

“The living room is enormous, but it's perfectly anchored with this classic fireplace and the decor is spot on.” So, even though the space is huge, it still has a cozy feel. She also loves the fun wallpaper and other great accents found throughout the home that make the design come together nicely.

A rather unique feature of the home is its two main suite options. “One is located very traditionally on the second floor of the home and it's everything you would want it to be,” says Sue. “It's oversized and has beautiful features like walk-in closets and a stunning spa-like bathroom. The second suite option is located in the third story. This large room has its own bathroom with a steam shower and quite possibly the largest walk-in closet I’ve ever seen! It's very impressive.”

The Dean Parkway neighborhood is also idyllic. “You're a stone’s throw from the Isles, but this specific location is also really unique because the house itself is perched on a hill,” she says. “You can sit on the bluestone front patio and enjoy the vibrancy of the location while in your own private haven. It feels like you're tucked away in this little world of your own and yet you're in a bustling urban location.”

Fazendin Realtors has years of experience selling vintage homes such as this one. “When you market a vintage home that has this kind of charm and character, the biggest thing we strive to accomplish is customizing the marketing and telling the home’s story correctly,” says Sue. “As an agent, it’s about doing your homework so you can give buyers all the information they need and want.

“The other piece Fazendin does really well is something I really gravitate towards, which is taking the time to make connections with buyers as well as agents who might lead us to the best possible buyers at the end of the day. So, being involved and hands on and always engaged is really the key.” Of course, this is all combined with incredible photography to showcase the homes in all their glory.

Knowing the area as well as the house is important, and since Sue lives close by, she can inform families about parks and schools and singles and couples about restaurants and nightlife. “It’s not just about the home; it’s the entire experience,” she says.

Another great property listed with Fazendin is in Cedar-Isles-Dean. “This one, at 2713 France Avenue, is spectacular in its own way,” says Sue. “It’s just steps from Cedar Lake, so again, it’s giving buyers that true city lakes experience plus the accessibility of everything that's there.”
