Finding community, making art, bringing smiles

Virginia Lago loves Johns Creek, and it shows!

Virginia Lago, a Brazilian by birth and American at heart, has lived in the Johns Creek area for more than 23 years, contributing to the artistic landscape of the schools and bringing art therapy to senior citizens throughout the Atlanta metro area.

Early in life, she developed entrepreneurial skills by launching a manufacturing company with her grandad and dad creating logos and mechanical drawings which inspired her to pursue an Industrial Design degree from a top university in Brazil. She continued to hone her artistic skills on stage with a popular TV show in Brazil. After moving to United States, her TV experience landed her opportunities to work for TNT, Cartoon Network and The Weather Channel as voice talent and on camera meteorologist.

While raising her children she devoted herself to perfecting her oil painting skills with renown artists such as Hellen Van Wyk and most recently with Stefan Baumann. Her murals can be seen in a dozen different schools across the Atlanta metro area, such as Medlock Bridge Elementary,   Lake Windward Elementary, Creek View Elementary, New Prospect Elementary and Autrey Mill Middle School to name a few.

Virginia developed an art therapy program and for more than 10 years she worked closely with senior citizens at several assisted living facilities across greater Atlanta. She took her program to Emory Hospital Johns Creek Infusion Center, bringing amazing positivity to patients and visitors. Three years ago, Virginia combined another passion for dogs and animals with her art and created a pet portraiture business. Her unique style has won awards and she is now teaching students painting online.

Virginia has been president of HOA for six years at the Villas of Johns Creek and also a volunteer at the Arts and Culture for the City of Johns Creek. “Johns Creek is a great town. I love the parks for walks, working out at Lifetime or Crunch, having breakfast and Harbor Cafe, and sushi at Kani House and a great potato soup at Longhorn,” says Virginia.

This month, Virginia celebrates her birthday. “With Valentine’s Day, February is a month of love and this is what I am wishing more  of  for this world in 2021!”
