In today’s modern, wired world, finding time to connect with family, friends, and oneself is increasingly complex and challenging. Prior generations embraced the outdoors to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and experience a small slice of adventure. Time in nature has been shown to reduce anxiety and boost mental health. Studies show that camping and other outdoor activities increase bonding, improve self-esteem and confidence, build resilience, and improve overall mood, sleep, and creativity for kids and families.
The problem with traditional camping and outdoor living is the hassle. Between the need for expensive gear like tents, sleeping bags, or cots and the hassle of setting up and teardown, not to mention exposure to the elements and the risk posed by inclement weather, especially the heat, camping “old school” has fallen out of favor with most families in North Texas.
Tiny Home Vacations Resort in Denison, Texas, offers a unique lodging experience with individually decorated tiny homes featuring private firepits and outdoor space. Located at 315 Hanna Dr, Denison, TX 75020, the Resort is nestled near Lake Texoma and Eisenhower State Park, providing guests with easy access to outdoor activities like boating, fishing, and hiking. With easy access to all of the benefits of traditional camping without the hassle, expense, and inconvenience, the Resort is a perfect solution for families looking to recharge or reconnect.
The Resort's tiny homes include well-appointed kitchenettes with fridges, microwaves, coffee pots, and cooking options; the forest huts offer bunk-style accommodations with a community Washhouse. Guests can enjoy an outdoor pool, hot tub, fire pits, barbecue grills, and a dog park so the entire family, including Fido, can enjoy the tranquil environment and well-maintained grounds. The outdoor spaces are carefully designed to facilitate exploration and relaxation for the child in all of us.
It all began when Tyson Mathews discovered tiny homes through his Aunt Vicki and Uncle Ralph, who had built one on their property in Idaho. Something about the simplicity, charm, and creativity of tiny living captured his spirit… even with Tyson being a man with a soul larger than life. He fell in love with creating a space where people could escape the noise of everyday life, reconnect with nature, and—most importantly—feel free to be kids again.
In 2020, Tyson brought that vision to life, opening Tiny Home Vacations on the peaceful shores of Lake Texoma. With the concrete jungle of the Dallas Metro in mind, he built a retreat where families, friends, and solo travelers could come together under the stars, roast marshmallows around a fire, and breathe deeply for the first time in a long time without the hassle typically associated with outdoor adventure.
Tyson poured his heart into every detail. This wasn’t just a business to him — it was a dream grounded in joy, playfulness, and the belief that everyone deserves a place to feel light, free, and at peace.
In late 2022, Tyson’s unexpected passing left a deep void, and the Resort temporarily closed its doors. But his spirit never left this place. In March 2024, under the direction of Aunt Vicki and a new management team, Tiny Home Resorts was lovingly revived — not just to honor Tyson’s legacy, but to carry it forward.
Today, the beat of this place is more beautiful than ever. Guests will find new and expanded offerings, including the Hilltop Mercantile, guest laundry, pickleball court, human foosball, horseshoes, tent platforms, RV pads, the Forest Pavilion, Community Huts, and a warm, welcoming Event Room — each one created to bring people together and build new memories.
Tiny Home Resorts remains what Tyson always intended: a haven for connection, laughter, adventure, and stillness. It is a place where strangers become friends and the simple joys of life are celebrated every day.
