Since 1998 Volunteer McKinney has supported local non-profit organizations to connect with volunteers, network, and find resources to advance their causes. Providing a platform for 200+ non-profits to post about their organizations and their volunteer needs, Volunteer McKinney makes it easy for people to find opportunities to get involved.
Volunteer McKinney is operated by an executive director as well as a board of directors. Its mission is to utilize its extensive network to help non-profits learn best practices and connect with other organizations in mutually beneficial ways. Non-profits are educated on the resources available to them that they might not know about. All non-profits are welcome to take advantage of the Volunteer McKinney website listing. It's very easy to get started, and the benefits are invaluable.
I spoke with Executive Director Edie Heinicke about the many needs of the community amid the COVID-19 pandemic. She said that right now, many people and businesses want to make donations of home items, and she is working to connect those donations with the non-profits who need them. She also indicated that many fundraising galas have had to be canceled due to COVID, so several are hosting online fundraisers to try to bridge the gap.
Volunteer McKinney hosts a few annual events which include Santa on the Square and Make a Difference Day. Several non-profits participate in the Make a Difference day providing opportunities for people to support the community. Volunteer McKinney also sponsors the Spirit of McKinney awards as a service for non-profits to publicly recognize those people and businesses that have played an integral part in their success.
