Volvo Car USA, Northwest Bergen Lifestyle’s corporate neighbor on MacArthur Boulevard in Mahwah, has historically been a renowned world leader in safety technology and innovation. Now, the company is about to raise the bar once again in vehicular safety standards and sustainable lifestyles.
Having set a decisive course for a completely electric future, the Swedish company plans to reveal one new electric car each year so that by 2030, their entire automotive line will be fully electric, aligning with their goal to be climate-neutral by 2040.
Enter the new Volvo EX90, a seven-seater, all-electric SUV that delivers optimal safety standards for drivers who want to achieve a sustainable lifestyle. An instant classic in Scandinavian design, the Volvo EX90 defines the principle of form following function. It’s a versatile, stylish family car with modern proportions, combining cutting-edge technology in core computing, connectivity, and electrification to optimize safety, efficiency, and aesthetics.
“The Volvo EX90 is a statement for where we are and where we are going,” says Chief Executive Officer, Jim Rowan. “It’s fully electric with a range of up to 300 miles on a single charge, designed to further raise our safety standards, the first Volvo car to be truly defined by its software and part of a wider ecosystem; connecting to your home and your other devices. The Volvo EX90 is the start of something new for Volvo Cars in many ways.”
The EX90 provides state-of-the-art Luminar lidar sensors, assisted driving functions, and lane-change steering support designed to respond and react to sudden potential hazards when a driver may be just a fraction too late. In addition, Volvo’s innovative technology allows the vehicle to understand when you’re distracted, drowsy, or otherwise inattentive, and if the driver falls asleep or is taken ill, the Volvo EX90 is designed to safely stop and call for help.
If the thought of charging an electric vehicle makes you want to stick with fossil fuels, take note. Charging your car has never been easier, thanks to various smart technologies and services. The Volvo Cars app allows you to choose from hundreds of thousands of public charging points around the globe, pay for your charging, and keep track of charging progress in one easy-to-use interface. It also offers real-time availability of charging points via Google Maps in the car’s center screen infotainment system. Expected to deliver up to 300 miles of tailpipe emission-free driving range on a single charge, the Volvo EX90 charges from 10 to 80 percent in about 30 minutes.
The Volvo EX90 will also be stocked with the necessary hardware to enable bi-directional charging, an up-and-coming technology whereby you can use your car battery as an extra energy supply to power your home, other electric devices, or another electric Volvo car. “With the Volvo EX90, you can power your life,” says Head of Electrification Ecosystem Olivier Loedel. “You could use its battery in many ways, from topping up your electric bike when you’re out and about, to hooking up an outdoor cooking appliance for your weekend camping trip. It could even power your house during the expensive peak hours of the day.” Volvo plans to make bi-directional charging available in the future, starting with selected markets.
A 14.5-inch center screen is your gateway to one of the best infotainment systems available—with Google built-in. The car’s center screen display is designed to help you keep your eyes on the road by offering you the correct information at the appropriate time. It includes Google apps and services, along with hands-free help from Google Assistant and Google Maps navigation. The system is also compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay.
The Volvo EX90 will also come with phone key technology, meaning your smartphone can serve as your car key, automatically unlocking the car and starting a personal welcoming sequence as you approach. All of this comes together in one of the most pleasant and elegant car interiors on the market, full of natural and responsibly-sourced materials.
On January 3rd, 2023, the new Volvo EX90 was shown for the first time in North America at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas to highlight the tech collaborations that make the Volvo EX90 their smartest vehicle yet. The Volvo EX90 represents a new era for safety for Volvo.
The 2024 Volvo EX90 is now available for pre-order in the United States at volvocars.com/us. The 7-seater Volvo EX90 will be available well-equipped at under $80,000.
