Watching horse and trainer understand how the other works highlights both in a way they truly deserve

Homedale resident Wade Black has claimed the 2021 The Road to the Horse World Championship title and $75,000 grand prize. Held in Fort Worth, Texas over the course of three days, contestants work untrained young geldings and compete by accomplishing a series of tasks, including an obstacle course. The colt starting competition celebrates the best of western horsemanship, showcasing the unique style of each horse and trainer.  Each trainer spends time working with horses who have specific problems and attempts to resolve them in front of the arena audience. Watching horse and trainer understand how the other works highlights both in a way they truly deserve.

Black, who directs Treasure Valley Community College’s Equine Science program in Ontario, Oregon, and teaches horse production and horsemanship, is known for his determination, kindness and patience.  Black won the wild card division of the Road to the Horse in 2019 to earn a slot at the 2021competition. The Road to the Horse is an annual event designed to entertain and educate fans in the art of natural horsemanship.

Black owns and operates Training for the Cross, LLC, focused on producing well rounded bridle horses and providing Industry Quality Standards and Industry Certifications in training horses for the public. He lives in Homedale with his wife Amaia, and children, Teo, Josie, and Cy.
