Arizona is not just a desert. The state offers a variety of climates and elevations, all within an easy drive of Peoria. You can find almost any kind of outdoor activity in Arizona.
1. Water
Lake Pleasant offers more than 11 square miles of open water, surrounded by 116 miles of shoreline. Boating, fishing and hiking are just a few of the popular activities.
2. Desert
At the Phoenix Sonoran Preserve, experience desert isolation just north of Peoria on I-17. Head a few hundred yards up the trail from the Desert View Trailhead to the valley below Dixie Mountain. Once in the valley, you feel completely isolated only minutes from home.
3. Mountains
The North Rim of the Grand Canyon is a day’s drive north but is a world away from the more popular South Rim. At 9,000 feet above sea level, the North Rim is a mountain location with campsites in the pines, perched on the canyon's edge.
