Imagine if you could bottle sunshine, happiness and positive vibes and harness it into glass beads…then you’d have the makings of Lawn Party, a bespoke jewelry brand based out of Boulder, founded by Julie Fuller.

Lawn Party jewelry consists of unique, colorful, one-of-a-kind vintage glass beaded pieces all made in the hopes “to make other’s eyes light up with color.”

Julie says the fun behind her company’s name evokes a “joyous laidback vibe.” While most of her work is comprised of unique necklaces, there are also sunglass chains, bracelets and anklets available. With new creations released weekly, every wearable piece is different. Her necklaces and bracelets are meant to be worn solo or layered; sometimes she mixes in 14K gold-filled chains and vintage sequins. The quality of her creations shows in her five-star average ratings on Etsy with happy customers gushing their praises—most being repeat customers.

“I truly get excited anytime I see anyone wearing a piece of mine. I love seeing how people style their piece and make it their very own,” Julie says.

We take a moment to hear what life is like as a jewelry creator and how the past few years have fine-tuned her work.

Do you listen to anything while you create, like music or podcasts?

If I am photographing and editing photos, I am listening to music. My Spotify playlists are all over the place. This winter and spring I was listening to a lot of Erykah Badu, Poolside, Santigold, Harry Styles and Billie Eilish. When I am creating pieces, I am usually binge-watching something, and I listen to podcasts when I am shipping out orders. I listen to a lot of True Crime, then some music podcasts like Broken Record and The Fader, and I’ll mix in some light and fluffy celebrity podcasts.

How has your work evolved over the past few years? I know it’s been a wild ride with the pandemic for all of us.

I have made jewelry on and off for a long time, but it was not something I ever really focused on. Then towards the end of 2020, I was realizing I needed something creative to focus on and a place to put that creative energy that I had put on hold.

Starting out, I really only knew three things I wanted these pieces to be. I wanted each piece to be one of a kind. Something you can pick out, fall in love with it, and know that you are the only person with that piece of jewelry. To me, there is something really special about that.

I had realized that during 2020, color had brought me comfort. I wanted to be surrounded by it and I also wanted to be wearing it. So I knew I wanted to play a lot with color, and the mixing of colors. Now I am constantly looking for amazing color combos anywhere I go. Whether it is a mix of colors that was thoughtfully planned out or some random colors that happen to be next to each other out in nature or on a building or something.

I also knew that I wanted to only use vintage beads. Vintage clothing is my love language. I live in vintage denim and vintage t-shirts and wanted to make pieces that would mix well with other vintage or be worn with anything else.

Are any exciting things in the works for the coming months?

I have a collaboration that I am currently working on that I am really excited for. It is something I haven’t tried before with beads so I am excited to see how it turns out and how it's received.
