The Angels and Me Foundation, AngelsNTech, a non-profit mentoring organization established to Ignite interest, innovate solutions, and Inspire young girls and support parents within STEAM fields, partnered with the Atlanta Chapter of Links Incorporated in South Fulton to provide an innovative STEAM workshop exploring Wearable Tech.
At the Southwest Arts Center, with over 20 students and parents participating in the program, youth were able to gain knowledge on the origins of Science and Mathematics from guest speaker, Kamaria Finch, Chairman of the Harriett Tubman School of Computer Science and Technology.
Students applied the basics of wearable technology and sensory logic during the lab activity. Coding in JavaScript through Make Code editor, participants programed a Step Counter with a micro: bit, programmable computer device. The invention simulates technology which can be found in today’s market of wearable technology devices such as Apple watches and Fitbit lifestyle devices.
Renaissance Middle School 7th grader, Ayreon Johnson stated, “My experience with AngelsNTech has taught me more about coding and the endless opportunities I have in STEM. I really enjoyed the wearable technology session because I got a chance to learn how to code a micro: bit. It was also really cool learning all the amazing things I could do with a micro: bit like coding games and making music.”
