Associated Skin Care Specialists, a long-established and trusted dermatology practice with offices in and around Minneapolis, has now opened a new location in Linden Hills. The new team is led by Dr. Bailey Lee, a board-certified dermatologist who has been with the practice for 10 years and Dr. Erin Luxenberg, also a board-certified dermatologist, who has recently joined Associated Skin Care Specialists after practicing in the community for 9 years.
“This location has been my special, pet project as I have been dreaming of a Minneapolis location for years," shares Dr. Lee. "The bonus is - I live right in the neighborhood. Since I have been practicing in our Maple Grove location for several years, being closer to home now is a delightful change. My four kids are getting older and the value of community and being close to that community has become more and more important to us.”
One of Dr. Lee’s overall goals with the space is to make it feel welcoming. “I didn't want it to necessarily feel like you were walking into a medical office. It's very bright with tall ceilings, and there's a lot of soft textures that make the space comfortable. There are a bunch of small seating areas where patients can kind of settle in, grab a coffee and relax.” One of the best compliments she has received so far was from a patient who said she just wanted to come and hang out there, even without an appointment.
The medical treatment rooms have a lot of great, natural light and everything is crisp and clean, yet warm and charming. There are also patient rooms where aestheticians, Courtney and Shayla, provide their expertise in medical aesthetics.
“I have two aspects of my practice,” says Dr. Lee. “My medical practice, and my aesthetic practice. On the medical side, skin checks are far and away the things I do the most, so skin cancer screenings and mole checks, and then any follow up procedures related to those.”
She says it’s important for everyone to get a baseline skin check. Part of that skin check is about educating patients on what they should look for, and sometimes it's not always obvious. Treating acne is the next most common thing that she does, followed by treatments for psoriasis and eczema.
In the cosmetic side of the practice, Dr. Lee says that injectables, especially Botox, are the most commonly requested treatments. “I also do a lot of laser surgery, including resurfacing and rejuvenation, and also treatment of vascular lesions, redness, and brown spots. The practice also offers Body Contouring, which includes CoolSculpting® , CoolTone, and QWO. CoolSculpting is an FDA-cleared, non-surgical, non-invasive fat-reduction system used to contour the body by freezing fat cells that your body later eliminates. QWO is the first and only FDA-approved injectable that treats moderate to severe cellulite. CoolTone is an FDA-cleared, non-invasive muscle toning technology for abs, buttocks, and thighs.”
Since technology in the skincare industry continues to change and improve, she says it’s really important to stay on top of it all. “We have to stay ahead of trends and also recognize what's a trend and what's going to be a long-term treatment, something that's here to stay and will give patients a lot of benefits.”
She adds, “We've always had a tradition of excellence and have been a strong referral base for other doctors and other practices. We strongly believe that when you come in to see a dermatologist for your skincare, you're looking for an expert, so you’re going to see a board-certified dermatologist every time.
Patients will also find many top-of-the-line skin care products in the office. “These are chosen specifically with evidence-based data to back up their claims and safety in mind,” says Dr. Lee. “There's a very rigorous process. They're all vetted carefully by three different physicians and our senior aestheticians.”
An overwhelming majority of her patients are repeat patients and many come from word of mouth references. “But now that we're in a new area, I think it's important patients know we're finally here. I'm confident that once they come in and see our services and what we offer they’re going to become repeat patients.”
Dr. Lee takes special pride in her staff as well. “We have two wonderful receptionists, Suzy and Sierrah. They always have a smile on their faces and really go above and beyond to be helpful to patients. Our nursing team, Megan, Rachel, and Ashley have an amazing ability to connect with patients and anticipate their needs.”
Associated Skin Care Specialists now has 15 dermatologists, and in addition to Dr. Lee, Dr. Erin Luxenberg is also delighted to practice at the new Linden Hills office. Since both live in the nieghborhood, it is a perfect fit.
“We feel pretty lucky to be in this neighborhood and in this space,” says Dr. Lee. “It's just been so fun to become part of this community. We have wonderful neighbors who have been really supportive, and we look forward to meeting the rest of the community.”
