Many people are surprised to discover that Medina is home to a faith-based, alternative health center that has members from all over the US and the world. “When locals find out that we offer all these holistic wellness services, we often hear, Wait, right here in Medina?," says Alphonzo Monzo, the naturopathic doctor at the helm of Well-being By Design.
The center, which includes a small store, has quietly been building a devoted following based mostly on word-of-mouth referrals since March 2019. Co-founder Kimberly Kubitza explained that the purpose of Well-being By Design is to, “create a place where members can find wellness through modalities that are aligned with natural health principles.” Services include, but aren’t limited to:
- Thrive Chiropractic, Kelsey Stolarski, DC
- Optim Cryotherapy (also featured in this edition)
- NeurOptimal neurofeedback (brain training)
- Touch Therapy
- Sound Therapy
- Non-surgical Skin Lesion Clinic
- Aromatherapy consultations
The clinic recently added a sound room where Heather Gray, RN and Certified Sound Therapist, creates an atmosphere of peace and tranquility for her clients. In stark contrast to her operating room experience, she now uses ancient principles of sound coupled with computer-aided voice analysis to identify weaknesses in the body and correct them with low-frequency vibration, tuning forks and more. Restoring health through sound is a powerful way to trigger positive changes in the body and mind. Her work allows one to enter into a state of relaxation where releasing stress and negative emotions is done to rebalance the body and soothe the soul.
Some come in search of answers to chronic health problems like Lyme and mold toxicity, while others just want to support their well-being in a gentle, natural way. With so many offerings, there truly is something for everyone.
“We get phone calls every day from people asking, ‘Can you help with X, Y and Z?’ and our answer is always, ‘Yes,’ because we’re using tools and products that stimulate the body’s own ability to heal,” says Dr. Monzo. “For example, if a child comes in with attention problems we evaluate what the root cause is and suggest a protocol that might include eliminating neurotoxins, supplements for brain health, brain training with neurofeedback and educating the parents on how to support their child by making simple lifestyle changes.”
After her son was born, Claire Ashdown of Medina, suffered from recurring infections. She says, “Conventional medicine couldn’t help me and I knew there had to be another way.” Now, years later, her entire family is benefiting from this “body, mind, and spirit approach to health, catered to the individual and centered around finding the core issues that are causing dis-ease.”
