Taryn Bolotin's sister brought her to a children's consignment shop when she was pregnant. "I immediately fell in love with the idea of reusing these things we consume," she says. "I thought, Westport is pretty sustainable— we should have one, too." (She has been based in Westport since 1990, when her dad, singer Michael Bolton, moved the family here.) Taryn says she had "zero interest in fashion/retail" before that shopping trip, but she felt compelled to open her own boutique because of her passion for the environment. "The amount of waste we create with disposable diapers gave me tremendous guilt," she says. "I tried to be kinder to the planet with everything we did with my kids."
She's done that for many kids in Fairfield County with her consignment shop Around the Rosy, which opened in 2013 and two years ago moved to their current location on Post Road East, twice the size of the former spot. Inside, you'll find everything from vintage girls' party dresses to kids' bikes to barely-used nursery decor. "Every time someone comes in looking for something specific –soccer cleats, size 11—and we have them, it's a great feeling," says Taryn.
Taryn also loves the community of shoppers— and sellers!— Around the Rosy brings together. "We love our customers and seeing their kids grow up and shop the racks on their own! It's nice becoming friends with our customers and seeing them make connections with each other," says Taryn. "Being a new parent can be isolating. We want parents to know they are safe here, and we guarantee their kids are going to find their new favorite store."
