What Makes Your Community Special?

Highlighting one of Roswell's greatest treasures

As a realtor, I have to keep in mind what makes a community so special that people would want to live there.  I live in Roswell, Georgia where there are a lot of things that make it truly special:  the town history, Canton Street with shops, galleries and restaurants; strong schools and award-winning parks; the Chattahoochee River and so much more!  One place I think makes Roswell particularly unique is the Chattahoochee Nature Center (CNC) on Willeo Road.  A private, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization founded in the mid-1970’s, their mission is “to connect people with nature.” And they have done just that for decades.  My wife grew up in Buckhead, but visited the CNC on elementary school field trips.  From educational opportunities and camps to guided canoe trips, hikes, festivals and more, CNC caters to kids and adults alike.  It’s also a beautiful place to hold an event with numerous venues throughout the property.

As a nonprofit, CNC relies on volunteers and community support.  Each year, the CNC hosts a fundraiser called the Eco-Challenge.  This is an Amazing Race type event facilitated by PlayWorks Group, a team building firm, also based in Roswell, GA.  The event kicks off with a canoe race and then moves corporate teams throughout the CNC grounds and even onto the river through a series of challenges, clues and photo opportunities.  This event is a great way to let folks who may not be familiar with the Chattahoochee Nature Center see how beautiful the property is while raising funds to help support it.  The Eco-Challenge also inspires corporations (and the individual participants) to volunteer their time and connect even more with nature.  It’s a win-win!

I know that the Chattahoochee Nature Center and PlayWorks Group would be thrilled to put on a similar event for your organization if you were looking for something fun and different to build your team.

All this to say, I always mention the Chattahoochee Nature Center when working with clients.  It’s a great conversation starter and usually brings back fond memories for folks who grew up in the Atlanta area.  For clients moving to the area, they are undoubtedly impressed by this unique Roswell landmark.
