What's New in Waconia

Out with neck ties, in with self-care. Help Dad get a little TLC this Father’s Day with these local picks

He’s strong. He’s sweet. He’s protective. If you’re lucky, the dad in your life is a perfect combination of these and so much more. And this guy. He just knows things. Sometimes, it’s exactly what you need (can we get an amen for all the car genius dads out there?), and sometimes, it’s a random fact coming entirely out of left field. Did you know that the unicorn is Scotland’s national animal? It feels strangely useful, though, doesn’t it? Knowing is most definitely a dad’s superpower, and for all that shared wisdom, he deserves a reward. Aftershave? Sure. But what about something more memorable? Maybe you’ll use this list as a gift guide for Father’s Day, or maybe you’re a dad reading this and thinking, “I do deserve it!” The goal here is to give Dad some respite. But not from the knowing; no, that’s a built-in feature.

A classic straight razor shave at Waconia Barbers. This modern space is a superb locale for Dad to feel doted on. The inviting and sunny atmosphere, not to mention the talented barbers, will leave him feeling lighter and amply spoiled.

An Old Fashioned at The Brass Hat. Or, if he’s a beer or wine drinker, you’ll find a selection here as well. Pick your delicious poison at this classy, dimly lit speakeasy located downstairs from Bode Gray’s. The vibe here is almost a gift in itself.

Schedule a 1:1 Peer Support hour at The Hive with Revive with Randy. Dads take on a lot, and time devoted to talking things out with a trusted professional could be just what the doctor ordered. Give the gift of a therapeutic journey.

Choose from Balance Life Wellness’s massage menu. Relieve muscle tension, reduce pain, enhance flexibility, need we go on? Under the word massage in the dictionary, there must be a sentence that says, “The best way to enjoy self-care.”

A day with the guys playing 18 holes at Island View Golf Club. A gorgeous course, a warm day, physical activity, and bragging rights if he emerges victorious. He’ll be thirsty, so drinks out back with a picturesque view of the lake will be an extra treat.

Quality time spent at Churchills Quality Cigars & Gifts, and a cigar or two, of course. We know, we know, they’re not the healthiest, but Churchills isn’t just a shop, it’s an experience. Dad can choose a cigar of his liking from their variety-filled humidor and then hang out in the lounge or game room. Smoking jacket optional.

Spirits from J. Carver Distillery. Slip an award-winning bottle of Bourbon or Single Malt Whiskey into a “Dad, You Rock” gift bag, or go even further and mix a cocktail for him using a recipe on J. Carver’s website. Then, pick up some polish for your Golden Child crown.

Grilling meats from The Butcher’s Deli. If you have a grill master in your midst, a stop at The Butcher’s Deli is a must. They have numerous cuts of fresh meat to choose from, along with delicious sides that will accompany any celebratory Father’s Day meal.

Dinner at Buddy Boy’s BBQ. Crunchy coleslaw, sizzling brisket, collard greens, and charbroiled oysters—nothing says love like a manly meat fest at this newly expanded BBQ joint. Choose from their bustling indoor space or fun outdoor venue.

Set a family date night for bowling at Garage Bar & Bowl. Now and again, quality time is the best gift to give for inner nourishment and a refreshing break from the chaos of life. Lace-up those bowling shoes, place an order of cheese curds and a Poutine Pizza (trust me), and have fun!
