When in Agritopia

There is no shortage of fun and engaging things for a young couple to do on date night in Gilbert

Get to Agritopia
Sure, a young couple seeking something to do for date night (or a date day) could go anywhere in the
Valley. But with so many fun things to see and do in in Gilbert, why go anywhere else? One of the most
engaging stops in Gilbert is Agritopia. The urban farm has long been a destination, and it just keeps
growing.

Agritopia Farm
The center of the Agritopia universe is Agritopia Farm. The community garden is a fun walk showcasing
all that is blooming in the current season. Local gardening aficionados and aspiring farmers show off
their growing skills throughout the picturesque garden that includes everything from flowers and
sugarcane to string beans and radishes. There might even be a spot or two for a young couple to steal a
kiss!
Wednesdays are the busiest days, with a free farm tour every second Wednesday of the month from 10-
11:00 a.m. Learn about the history of the farm and what is currently growing in the orchards and fields.
Farm Nights take place 5-8:00 p.m. every second Wednesday of the month. Similar to a farmers’ market,
this is an engaging spot where the health conscious can peruse local vendors and pick up certified
organic produce under the romantically watchful eye of the moon.
U-Picks are just what they say they are. Show up and pick citrus or other produce, depending on what’s
in season. And don’t forget to bring the Porsche… It makes for a great place to store your oranges until
you’re ready to leave. Check the agritopiafarms.com website for a schedule of U-Picks.
Grab lunch or dinner at Joe’s Farm Grill, a community staple that was featured on “Diners, Drive-Ins and
Dives” a decade ago and simply exploded in popularity. Many of the menu items at Joe’s are grown right
on the adjacent farm.

Barnone

Tucked into Agritopia is Barnone, an eclectic assortment of restaurants and makers that will thrill and
even inspire young couples to eat healthy, get creative and dream big. The Uprooted Kitchen is perfect
for lunch (or dinner on Wednesday nights) and is an organic eatery utilizing produce from the Farm at
Agritopia. The plant-centric menu incudes exciting and unique recipes that are thoughtfully prepared.
If pizza is more your speed, head over to Fire and Brimstone for an eclectic menu of appetizers, salads
pizzas and sandwiches. Because the owners of Fire and Brimstone just had to keep showing off their
culinary prowess, they recently opened Cream of the Crop that goes hand-in-hand with Fire and
Brimstone.
Cream of the Crop is a small homemade ice cream shop that also boasts ingredients from the adjacent
farm with rotating creative and seasonal flavors. Some of the insanely fun seasonal flavors on the menu
include Cream of the Crop Vanilla, Barcelona Hot Chocolate, Egg Nog Snickerdoodle and Spiced Apple
Cider sorbet.
Other makers to discover in Barnone include Lettercraft, a premier maker of reclaimed wood-burned
décor, laser-cut wood gifts and more and Johnston Machine Co., a fabrication shop that specializes in
developing, creating and testing culinary tools. Founder of Barnone Joe Johnston is a tinkerer at heart
and he has mad creative skills. It’s thrilling to watch this genius at work! Brainstorming on new products
is always welcome.
Johnston Arms specializes in custom firearms and also educates young couples or any other curious
onlookers about the sporting lifestyle and seeking adventure through travel with family and friends.
Rounding out Barnone is Wander, a focused and caring hair salon and 12West Brewing a popular spot to
experience unique beers utilizing locally sourced ingredients.  Visit barnoneaz.com for a list of upcoming events.
