Support for the Lake Travis Education Foundation (LTEF) often finds its way directly into the student experience. It can become a classroom camera that helps students bring a story to life, a mock courtroom where future attorneys find their voices or equipment that makes a career and technical education lesson feel closer to the real world.
That path from community support to student discovery has guided LTEF since Lake Travis residents founded the nonprofit in 1985. Four decades later, the foundation has provided more than $4 million for programs and projects across Lake Travis ISD. Its work supports needs that fall outside the ordinary school budget, giving educators access to tools, materials and experiences that can bring lessons off the page and into students’ hands.
Innovative educator grants are part of that work. LTEF funds instructional materials, teaching aids, technology, campus projects and district initiatives that expand learning opportunities. Recent grant highlights include a new teacher mentoring program, entrepreneurship equipment, a mock trial courtroom, simulator babies, choir instruments, welding resources and speech-to-text accommodations. Each one begins with an educator who sees an opportunity and a community willing to help make it possible.
The impact can follow students beyond a school year. LTEF also administers scholarships recognizing academic achievement, leadership, service, perseverance and a range of post-secondary paths, including business, education, technical and vocational training, athletics, study abroad and the arts. Some carry the names of community members whose legacies continue through the students they support.
LTEF recently expanded its mission in another significant way. For the 2025–2026 school year, the foundation provided $250,000 to preserve seven full-time staff positions across Lake Travis ISD, marking the first time in its history that donations directly funded district staff. With much of the district’s operating budget devoted to personnel, that support helps protect the people and programs students rely on each day.
Behind every grant, scholarship and funded position is a simple exchange. A neighbor gives, an educator gains a resource and a student receives an opportunity that may stay with them far beyond the classroom.
Community members can make one-time or recurring donations, contribute stock or cryptocurrency, support scholarships or connect through family, employee and corporate giving programs. LTEF also brings neighbors together through events such as its Celebrity Golf Tournament, Hill Country Turkey Trot and Butterfly Brunch.
In a season centered on gratitude, the work offers a fitting reminder that giving can be both personal and practical. According to LTEF, 100 percent of donations remain within Lake Travis schools, allowing community support to reach local students, educators and campuses directly.
Donors may never watch a student-produced film, hear a first mock trial argument or meet the graduate whose scholarship helped open a new door. Still, their support can be present in each of those moments.
A contribution made today can become a classroom experience, a teacher retained, a scholarship awarded or a memory a student carries for years. Learn more about supporting Lake Travis students and educators this holiday season at LTEducationFoundation.org.
