It’s Friday night. Stage lights twinkle and dance about. An orange sherbet-tinged Texas sun teases the horizon. Children skip and sway to music as it drifts down from an outdoor stage. Parents and grandparents sip cold drinks that ease a late summer thirst. It’s the kind of moment you hope stretches into tomorrow.
On any given evening at The District at Willow Park, families can be found lingering a little longer in the simple moments that often become the sweetly held memories. Designed as a destination that blends dining, shopping, entertainment, and community gathering spaces, The District has become a hub for family fun in this fast-growing corner of Parker County.
"The District was created to be more than a collection of shops and restaurants," says Nicole Ellis. "It was designed as a place where families can spend meaningful time together."
Nicole is part of the executive leadership team at Wilks Development, a Fort Worth-based real estate development and investment company behind several prominent projects in Parker County, including The District at Willow Park, The Shops at Willow Park, and Willow Park North.
The District has a jam-packed calendar. From April through mid-November, families can enjoy movies on the lawn, live music, line dancing, music bingo, trivia nights, and seasonal celebrations. Even furry family members are included, thanks to The District's dog-friendly atmosphere and pet-focused events.
While special events bring people together, Ellis says it's often the everyday interactions that make The District feel special.
"We love seeing kids playing on the lawn in the afternoon, families sharing a meal together, and neighbors running into one another," she says. "Those everyday moments are what make a community feel connected."
August holds a slate of offerings for families to enjoy, including live music, trivia, music bingo, and line dancing. Guests can also explore NTX Vintage Market's Disco Cowgirl Market on Aug. 9, featuring shopping, entertainment, and local vendors.
As temperatures begin to cool, The District's fall calendar remains busy. Families can look forward to Barktoberfest on Oct. 4, additional movie nights, and the Holiday Market on Nov. 22. Nearby, The Shops at Willow Park will host its popular 4th Annual Fall Fest, complete with bounce houses, face painting, games, and more than 40 vendors.
Visitors will also have a new dining option to enjoy this season with the arrival of 589 BBQ, joining favorites like Cork & Pig Tavern, MELT Ice Creams, Lucchese, and Lone Star Dry Goods.
A perfect family evening might include browsing the shops, sharing a meal, enjoying a sweet treat, and settling onto the lawn for live music or a movie under the stars.
As Willow Park continues to grow, Ellis believes places like The District help preserve the community connections that make the area feel like home.
"Our hope is that The District becomes one of those places people return to again and again," she says. "Not because they have to, but because it feels like a natural part of their lives."
