So, we did what any fashion-loving traveler would do — we went shopping for answers. Deb Popp and Debby Walker of Alley Boutique and Lori Avallone of Mainstream Boutique helped map out this season’s standout looks, proving that refreshing your wardrobe doesn’t require starting over. Instead, it’s about choosing timeless pieces, embracing effortless style, and wearing what feels like you.
“We’re especially happy to see people mixing designers to fit their personal style,” Deb and Debby share. “Getting dressed up feels fun again.”
The season can be summed up in three words: “elevated, relaxed luxury.” Silhouettes skim rather than cling, while lace, fuzzy knits, subtle shimmer, and unexpected animal prints add texture to every look. Wide-leg jeans continue their reign, and short-sleeve sweaters become versatile staples. The biggest trend, though, isn’t found on a hanger — it’s personal style.
At Mainstream Boutique, Lori sees fall take on a polished, approachable personality. “We’re seeing a little more casual wear that’s elevated,” she says, as cleaner denim and tailored pieces return to everyday wardrobes. Oxblood, cobalt blue, olive green, and burnt orange create a palette that feels unmistakably autumn.
The mood is effortless, blending familiar favorites with fresh details that feel current without chasing passing trends. But some trends never leave, and Lori is happy to see them stay. “We like it when a classic is a trend,” she smiles. “It’s easier to get on board, and it’ll stay in your closet.” Mixed-media denim jackets, crisp stripes, Americana-inspired prints, barn jackets, cozy Fair Isle knits, and slim straight jeans prove wardrobes aren’t built around trends alone. They’re built around pieces you’ll reach for season after season.
Ask either boutique what belongs in a fall suitcase, and the packing list comes together almost instantly: wide-leg pants for the drive, cozy sweaters for cool evenings, and one outfit reserved for wherever the weekend takes you. Whether it’s a mountain cabin, a downtown getaway, or a brunch across town, this season is built around clothing that travels as easily as you do.
If there’s one piece both boutiques agree every closet needs this fall, it’s the wide-leg jean. “Wide-leg jeans are a must for your wardrobe,” Deb and Debby explain. “They’re great in every event, dressed up or down, elevated or casual.”
Tie-neck sweaters and blouses add softness, while scarves pull double duty as head wraps or waist accents. Mary Janes, kitten heels, and streamlined sneakers replace the chunky silhouettes of recent seasons. “Our customers are falling in love with feminine styles and fun colors this season,” Deb and Debby add. Each piece effortlessly balances comfort, versatility, and confidence for every adventure ahead.
For Lori, though, the most important trend has nothing to do with colors or hemlines. “Trends are fantastic,” she shares, “but if it doesn’t work for you, it doesn’t work for you. You need to do what’s best for you.” It’s a simple reminder, but perhaps the most stylish one of all.
A great wardrobe has never been about chasing the next destination. It’s about feeling comfortable wherever you arrive. Pack the sweater. Bring the wide-leg jeans.
