Whoa, How’d You Make that Bow?!

How You Can Master Ravishing DIY Ribbons

Want to “wow” your wrapping this gift-giving season? Laura Fisher of The Marmalade Lily—an event space, florist and flower farm that opens its doors to workshops and flower lovers alike—tells us it’s only four easy steps to mastering those pretty-but-pesky bows. Just four? Yep, four.

1. like tying a knot
Cross your ribbon and pull it through to make a simple loose knot, then locate the top and bottom.

2. one quick coil
Next, make a standard loop on the right with the bottom ribbon (below the knot).

3. easier than it sounds
Pull the top ribbon down and begin pushing a new loop through the center knot (for the left side of the bow).

4. and voilà!
Pull the new loop for the left side of the bow through, pull loosely—tugging it flat—then adjust (fluff!).

Already a bow-making Martha Stewart? Go next-level at The Marmalade Lily’s holiday workshops, Wreaths (Dec. 1) and Centerpieces (Dec. 19).
