Whole Body Wellness with Synergy Physical Therapy in Northampton

Tell us about your early career in physical therapy and why you decided to pursue the discipline.

Synergy Physical Therapy celebrates 11 years in Northampton! We started our clinic to get away from the corporate Physical Therapy model. Synergy is a patient-centered clinic and provides a place where some of the best physical therapists in The Valley can meet and work with patients in a relaxed environment with the time and space to help patients reduce their pain and get moving again.

What is Synergy PT’s mission and what makes you different?

The mission of Synergy PT is to help restore the fun in people’s lives through improved movement and function. What makes Synergy different is that we focus on the whole person, not the body part. To get someone to walk better, we often must look at the ankle, knee, hip, and low back. Getting all the muscular systems working together for a maximum outcome, hence the name Synergy Physical Therapy.

Tell us about your staff, your facility, and the services you provide.

The staff at Synergy PT, from the front office to the physical therapists, are all patient-centered. We work hard to provide the overall best PT experience. Most of our therapists have well over 25 years of experience, and we also have PT students from local colleges. The clinic is an open floor plan model that encourages people to move and exercise. Synergy is not just a sports therapy clinic; we provide services for pre-surgical and post-surgical patients, back and neck pain, and orthopedic injuries. We work with Parkinson’s and Multiple Sclerosis patients to improve their gait and balance. In the clinic, you often see patients of all ages and injuries working to achieve their PT goals.

Walk us through a new patient experience at Synergy PT, from the first consult to an established plan of care.

A new patient starts with a physical therapy evaluation where functional limitations are identified and discussed. The therapist and patient work together to set goals, and based on the goals, the plan of care is established. The plan of care can include hands-on manual therapy, modalities like ultrasound, exercises tailored to the patient limitations, and a home exercise program.

I know a big focus at Synergy is gait and balance. Can you share the importance and how you help patients with this?

Walking is so underrated as exercise. Both longevity and cognitive health can be improved by going for regular walks. As we age, our ability to balance and walk seems to slip away, and we often attribute it to just getting older. However, we can improve our balance and ability to walk at any age.

What do the next X years look like at Synergy Physical Therapy?

Synergy Physical Therapy will continue to grow, providing the best environment for a physical therapist to work that will, in turn, provide the best place for patients to receive physical therapy. We plan on staying “local” in Northampton and helping patients to move pain-free again.

How can patients best get in touch?

(anything else??)

Synergy Physical Therapy plans to expand its gait and balance center at its current location, providing more room for dynamic functional exercises.

Don’t let pain or fear of falling keep you from living your best life.
