Gratitude often reveals itself in quiet details—the laughter around a shared meal, the joy of a playful tradition, or the kindness of a neighbor who goes out of their way. We asked four local businesses—Whempy’s, JC Salons, Ballard Designs, and Rhythm Architecture—to reflect on the memories and milestones that remind them why the holidays are truly special.
CL: What’s a positive holiday memory for your team this season?
Whempy’s: “One of my favorite holiday memories is when our whole team gathered for a holiday potluck. Everyone brought a favorite dish, and it turned into an evening of laughter, storytelling, and camaraderie.”
CL: Can you remember an act of kindness that moved you?
Whempy’s: “I’ll always remember a longtime customer who surprised our crew with fresh-baked cookies. A simple act of kindness that reminded us that our customers see us as neighbors and friends.”

JC Salons: “Our holiday door decorating contest with our suite owners. It was awesome, everyone participated in their own style and as you walked through the salon every door was decorated different.”
CL: Are there any meaningful milestones you wish to share?
JC Salons: “I try to find joy in the small everyday things. It might be the birds, my pups... the sun shining. A kind word from a stranger.”

Ballard: “One of our designers worked with a guest in her home for a consultation. The guest was so grateful for the experience that she stopped in with fresh baked goods to thank our designer.”
