What began as a nights-and-weekends hobby—buying and refurbishing golf carts—has grown into a full-fledged golf cart dealership for George DeGraffenreid and his brother-in-law, Dan Sweeney. Today, the pair is celebrating more than five years in business. Wisco Carts, with two locations in Wisconsin: one in Muskego and another in Milton, offers everything a golf cart owner could want, including new and used golf carts for purchase, trade-in options and parts and service
“If you’re looking for fun, this is it,” DeGraffenreid says. “Many customers buy a golf cart, bring it home and end up using it a lot more than they thought.”
Choosing the Right Cart
Buyers can choose from a range of golf cart configurations, including traditional forward-facing seating or models with rear-facing seats for extra passengers. Options include both gas-powered and electric carts. With seven manufacturers on the floor and a variety of setups available, each purchase is tailored to fit a customer’s lifestyle, preferences, and intended use.
“It really comes down to asking the right questions,” DeGraffenreid says. “Once we understand what someone is looking for, we can point them in the right direction.”
Customizing Your Ride
Many of today’s carts come equipped with built-in features like stereo systems and upgraded lighting, making them ready to enjoy right away. Underbody LED lighting remains one of the most requested upgrades, but for some customers, that’s just the starting point.
“We’ve done a lot of customizations for special occasions,” DeGraffenreid says. “We’ve built carts for celebrities. We’ve also partnered with the Make-A-Wish Foundation several times, customizing a cart based on a child’s wish. We’ve also created carts as Christmas presents and birthday surprises.”
Exploring the Course and Beyond
Golf carts have evolved beyond the course, now falling into the growing category of low-speed vehicles (LSVs). Designed for everyday use, they offer a practical way to get around beyond the fairway.
According to DeGraffenreid, LSVs are street-legal in 46 states and can be registered through the DMV. They’re permitted on roads with speed limits of 35 miles per hour or less, making them ideal for neighborhood driving.
For many owners, they’ve become a convenient and fun way to visit friends, cruise through campgrounds and navigate local streets with ease.
Wisco Carts is located at S80W19025 Janesville Rd., Muskego. Follow them on Facebook @WiscoCarts or visit wiscocarts.net.
"Owning a golf cart is a different level of freedom—you’re outdoors, you can bring your family and friends along, and it becomes a great shared experience."
