Founded in 1968, Westlake Women’s Club celebrated 51 years of service in 2019! A member of the California Federation of Women’s Clubs, in 1971, Westlake Women’s Club joined the General Federation of Women’s Clubs.
A philanthropic volunteer organization proudly serving the entire Conejo Valley and beyond, via national and international projects, the Westlake Women’s Club serves a community of high academic and cultural interest. Membership in the nonprofit organization comprises a day and an evening section to accommodate working women. With a membership base crossing Los Angeles and Ventura County lines, the Westlake Women’s Club is governed by the two adjacent cities of Thousand Oaks and Westlake Village. Their wide-ranging membership area allows the WWC to welcome members from several surrounding communities to join the organization.
“We enthusiastically welcome all women who have an interest in serving and a desire to volunteer to help those in need,” says Jackie Harris, President of the Westlake Women’s Club. “Our theme is ‘United in Friendship – Working Together to Make a Difference.’”
The Westlake Women’s Club organizes several anticipated community events each year, including the upcoming Spring signature event, “Fashions on Parade” fashion show and luncheon at the Hyatt Regency Westlake Village Hotel on April 24.
The popular event, themed “The Spirit of Aloha, To Give and to Receive,” begins Friday, April 24, at 10 a.m. with complimentary champagne and includes a Silent Auction, boutique vendors, a grand luncheon for nearly 300 guests, music, wreath cash awards and a delightful fashion show.
The fashion show is one of three annual events organized by the WWC, with proceeds donated to various area nonprofits and to the preservation of local natural resources. The Fall Holiday Fantasy Buffet luncheon at the North Ranch Club in November includes holiday boutique vendors and fantastic silent auction baskets, and the Summer Wine Down at the Westlake Village Yacht Club in August features wine tasting and delicious food from local restaurants and kitchens, music and entertainment to benefit Senior Concerns and the National Disaster Search Dog Foundation.
In addition to their annual events, the Westlake Women’s Club works year round to benefit the community through educational scholarship and advocacy efforts, including awards presented yearly to graduating seniors from each of the six public Conejo Valley schools consisting of a monetary scholarship to assist in their attendance at a graduate school of their choice. Participating high schools are Agoura, Newbury Park, Oak Park, Thousand Oaks, Westlake and Conejo Continuation. Student applicants must demonstrate at least a 3.5 GPA, financial need and participation in school and/or community activities.
The WWC also hosted the “First Salute to Women Veterans of War” celebration luncheon honoring 21 remarkable women veterans who had served in WWII, Guam, Vietnam, Kuwait, Germany, Desert Storm, and the Gulf War. Other community services include funds donated to local charities - Manna, Court Appointed Special Advocates, Safe Passage for students, help for the Homeless and Hugh O’Brien Youth Foundation.
