Happy August! Words of Windsor is excited to share our book review of 'The One and Only Family' by Katherine Applegate. This is the fourth and final book in 'The One and Only' series, and it wraps up Ivan's story beautifully.
Ivan, the Silverback gorilla, is living at a sanctuary with his mate. They’re about to become parents and Ivan thinks it will be easy, but guess what? It's not! When the twins arrive, everything changes. Suddenly, Ivan is dealing with two curious two-year-olds asking a million questions.
His friends, Bob the dog and Ruby the elephant, are always around to help out. Bob gives hilarious advice while Ruby shares wise thoughts. There’s one funny part where Bob tries to teach the twins how to fetch, and let's just say it doesn't go as planned! Ruby, on the other hand, tries to explain the importance of patience, which leads to some laugh-out-loud moments.
The book is divided into four sections, perfect for readers who like shorter chunks. Almost every page has a title, making it a perfect read for the 8-11-year-olds. By the end, Ivan celebrates his birthday and looks forward to the future with his family.
