Local realtor Renee Amey has always said buying a home on one of Lee’s Summit’s lakes, whether that be Lakewood, Raintree Lake, Lake Winnebago, Lake Lotawana or Woodland Shore, is a lifestyle choice. That has become even more clear during the pandemic.
Amey and her team, which includes Lindsi Davis and Erin Slocum, are struggling to keep up with buyer demand as so many are now desiring to experience life on the lake. With work, school and other aspects of life being done from home and many vacations on hold, buyers have begun evaluating their homes and how they can find a reprieve without leaving their home at all.
The answer for many buyers is to move to the lake and let the community activities and amenities be the getaway they are seeking. Amey says those working from home are appreciating the ability to take an hour in the afternoon or evening to get out in nature on the lake. Additionally, kids are looking for increased activity outdoors after virtual school.
These factors combined with low interest rates have led to a flood of buyers. Amey says they wish there were more sellers in the market, and they have found themselves knocking on doors to see if there are other owners who might consider moving.
“We have found buyers are willing to spend more for a ‘packaged deal’ where they not only get a home but also included are outside entertaining spaces—outdoor kitchens and firepits, docks, swimming pools, and great lake access,” she says. “The market for luxury lake properties is definitely up.”
In fact, of the homes Amey and her team have sold during the last year, they are featuring three homes that all sold for around $1 million.
While the pandemic will not last forever, the trend of working from home and creating a lifestyle through one’s home will be long-lasting.
“This trend of enjoying the outdoors just beyond your back door has continued as our lives have forever changed it appears,” she says. “We know people will start to travel again, but with the new trend of working remotely and a renewed interest in the place we find home and what it provides, it is clear buyers’ home choices have been altered.”
