Food for Thought

As the saying goes, “You are what you eat,” but are you also what you drink?

How do you acquire a taste for food or drinks? Is it part of your chemistry or what you were taught to eat as a kid? Maybe it’s influenced by where you’re born or by what’s available to you? Interestingly, these are probably all correct answers.

Are you a picky eater? Are you a bland eater or are you one that loves zest and zing in every taste? I think that would be me. I love sauces, so that I can have a zing in everything I eat. What about you?

When it comes to drinks, do you prefer beer, wine or hard liquor? Do you like to taste the alcohol? Do you like to taste the flavor, or do you prefer it to not be noticeable?

For my wine drinkers, my husband and I went to a great Cabernet party. It was interesting to me that so many really had no understanding of what tasted good, or even more what was inexpensive or what was pricey. Are you a wine snob? I mean that in a good way. I have a few wines that I love and probably need to venture out. I personally like anything that is bubbly. Celebrating with Champagne is always good.

Learning to pair your food with your drinks is a whole other talent. Great food is easy for my palate, but picking out a drink that matches seems a bit more challenging. Whatever you're eating or drinking, make sure you're enjoying it, as why eat or drink something that doesn't bring you joy?

The same goes for anything you do in life. Surround yourself with good people, good times and good food. Remember food is the way to most of our hearts and leaves us with lots of fond memories for years to come. Enjoy, my friends!
