Young Adult fiction isn’t just for young adults.  The fantastic settings, imaginative plots, and deeply felt emotions make them great reading for any age.   Really, should Little House on the Prairie or Harry Potter not be read by anyone over 18?  Hardly.

According to Rebecca Leber-Gottberg of Rediscovered Books, young adult readers are asking for titles on a wide variety of topics these days.  “Some of the most popular books surround social justice, particularly on combating racism,” she says.  Other sought-after subjects include “anything that teaches you how to make something creative with your own two hands.”  Flying off the shelves are books on origami, macrame’ and knitting, “and everybody of every age loves puzzles," she says, adding, “Guides on exploring nature and science books are always in demand.”

In addition, Idaho has quite a pool of talented local writers specializing in Young Adult fiction and non-fiction, and now is the perfect time to celebrate them.   These books transport readers to a wide variety of settings from supernatural worlds to ancient Mayan cultures to present day Idaho.

Journey back to the childhood pleasure of curling up with a great book, favorite blanket, and cup of cocoa while being spellbound by these local Idaho authors. Because Young Adult is still adulting, right?
