Summer ended with the beginning of 1 Hotels residency in Austin. Alteño, Austin’s first restaurant from James Beard Award nominee Chef Johnny Curiel, and the gorgeous rooftop restaurant and bar Watr have been splashed across many headlines, rightly so, but we’ve found a regular home at Neighbors, the casual coffee shop and café by day that turns into a wine bar in the evenings. Interestingly, Neighbors is a familiar concept at 1 Hotels, part of the mission-driven luxury lifestyle brand founded by hospitality visionary Barry Sternlicht, but this is the first location that transitions into a bar at night. It even has an external door (rather than forced entry through the lobby) to welcome in the ever-growing Rainey Street community to enjoy Mediterranean wines that boast biodynamic, minimal-intervention, and sustainably farmed producers, alongside crisp spritzes and nitro espresso martinis.
Additional fun facts about our new Neighbors Cafe & Wine Bar include:
- They utilize honey from the hotel’s on-site apiary to sweeten beverages.
- The mural inside, by Christisn Kasperkovitz ,uses mud from the adjacent Waterloo Greenway to make plaster.
-It serves breakfast, lunch and dinner (tapas-style Mediterranean cuisine) using many local ingredients and pastries from local bakery Sour Duck Market.
So, go for a morning coffee, where you’ll be serenaded by a playlist including Leon Bridges, Neil Young and Black Puma, stop by for a pick-me-up in the afternoon and hear tunes from Fleetwood Mac and The Allman Brothers and stay for the evening, when cocktails are served and songs switch to a more romantic vibe with a playlist including Heavy Love Affair by Marvin Gaye.
