Owners of Mr. Handyman are Right Here and Ready to Work

Your To-Do List Done Right

John and Allison Bruflat have been working together longer than they’ve been married. They met as first year teachers at Grandview Middle School where John taught industrial arts and Allison taught 7th grade science. They married in 1996, eventually left teaching, raised their three children, and worked together in various businesses. In 2019, they became the owners of Mr. Handyman of Lee’s Summit, Raymore and Grandview.

“Working together is nothing new,” Allison says, “but when John and I discovered Mr. Handyman, a Neighborly company, their values spoke to us—respect, integrity, top-level customer service and having fun in the process.”

As a national franchise, Mr. Handyman was founded in 1996 and has served nearly 1 million customers across North America. The local Lee’s Summit office owned by the Bruflats covers a wide territory from Peculiar to I-70 and State Line to Grain Valley.

“We’re proud to have started with our Lee’s Summit customers,” they say. “Our goal is to be your one-call solution for home maintenance and repair with quality workmanship and professional reliability. You can trust the job will be done correctly and efficiently.”

Allison says Mr. Handyman provides safe, reliable technicians who are all bonded, insured, background-checked and drug-tested.

“We often get calls from community members at a loss with how to proceed with something in their home that’s been damaged or needs work or are worried about having a stranger in their home. It’s rewarding to be able to help them.”

Mr. Handyman offers home maintenance and services including assembly, repairs, maintenance, installations, drywall, carpentry and more.

Allison says customers appreciate the knowledge, responsiveness and skills the professional technicians bring to every job—with an average of 10 years’ experience in the trades.

“Mr. Handyman can be your personal home improvement consultant and a trusted resource that’s part of a leading national service franchise. We’re members of the KC Better Business Bureau and will be around for the long haul.”

John says they have enjoyed the support and opportunities from the Lee’s Summit community. “We know we picked a great city to start a business. Having grown up in Raytown and now living just south of Lee’s Summit, we’ve always been connected through our shopping, dining, and other experiences. When our kids were little, Allison was active in the Lee’s Summit Mothers and More group. She maintains many of those friendships today.”

An avid volunteer, Allison enjoys working with charitable causes in education and social issues. This past year on 9-11, the National Day of Service, Mr. Handyman helped the maintenance staff at Hope House, a domestic violence agency, on projects such as replacing exterior trim boards that had wood rot, replacing damaged sheetrock and installing new fixtures.

The Bruflats also plan to become certified in Aging in Place to allow seniors to stay in their own homes.

“John’s dad was able to stay in his own home into his 90’s in part due to John’s own handyman skills,” Allison says. “It would be satisfying to help our customers have safe, secure homes that are easy to navigate. Something as simple as installing grab bars, a job we’ve done for several families, makes a difference in someone’s quality of life. Nothing brings a smile to our faces like knowing we have done great work for a customer in need.”

“Mr. Handyman is your one-stop shop for a wide range of home maintenance and repair solutions. Mr. Handyman service technicians are highly skilled craftsmen, so you know they will get the job done right the first time.” — John and Allison Bruflat, owners
