Building Community Through Art

Local Organizations Providing Opportunities for Artists and Those Who Enjoy Their Work

From chalk drawings to cirque performances, art, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder.  Thanks to local organizations dedicated to promoting the arts, residents of Fayette County have a lot to behold.

Fayette County Public Arts Committee

The Fayette County Public Arts Committee works to enrich the lives of citizens and visitors by making the county’s artistic presence more visible and by integrating pubic artwork throughout the county through the involvement of amateur and professional artists.

The FCPAC hosts scarecrow competitions and chalk festivals, but from painting to blacksmithing Chairperson Cameron LaFoy says, “Literally all forms of art have equal footing with us.” Anything that sparks someone's creative passion is fair game.”

Membership is for citizens 18 and over, but anyone can volunteer and attend meetings the first Wednesday and third Monday of each month at 140 Stonewall Avenue, Fayetteville.

The Arts Council of Fayette County

Formed in 2019, the non-profit Arts Council of Fayette County seeks to cultivate, celebrate, and offer platforms for local creatives.

Founder Sherri Davis has more than 30 years of experience as a professional dancer, choreographer, and dance educator.  She is the CEO and president of Georgia Academy of Dance & the Performing Arts and the artistic director of Georgia Dance Theater, a 30-year, non-profit performing arts company.

“Our goal to is cause more awareness of the different types of professional art offered in our community, and to ultimately, create more opportunities for these talented professionals in Fayette County,” Davis says.

The ACFC promotes all professional art forms including, painters, sculptors, photographers, dancers, actors, singers, and musicians. All monies raised and donated to the ACFC are given back directly to deserving, professional arts organizations located within Fayette County that showcase professional works of art or financially support professional performing artists.

“The arts bring joy to communities, help individuals express values, and build bridges between cultures,” Davis says. “The arts improve individual well-being.”
