Making movies here at home

You know Roswell is special.

And now, filmmakers from around the globe are discovering our city and state as a highly sought-after place for filming, thanks to decade-old, state-authorized tax incentives that include a 20 percent base transferrable tax credit with an additional 10 percent Georgia Entertainment Promotion. Georgia has become a filming mecca, surpassing New York and California.

Two years ago, the mayor’s Movie Task Force was formed with the goal to drive production business to the city of Roswell that would serve as a revenue generator and job provider. Roswell has solidified itself as a very film-friendly destination with a film team that provides extremely fast response and thorough resources. This keeps location scouts coming back with additional opportunities, and word-of-mouth referrals continue to keep Roswell on the map as a place in which companies choose to film.

Recently, filming has been underway here for Ozark, Cobra Kai, Hidden Valley, Moe’s Southwest Grill, HGTV’s Backyard Blowout, CLIF BAR, Mercedes-Benz, Home Depot, Ultimate Rides, Step Up and Wellstar Health System. “Just this last fiscal year, we worked 125 film leads, hosted 48 site visits and won 38 productions,” says Andy Williams of Roswell, Inc. “We tracked over a half a million dollars in direct revenue to home or business owners through the utilization of their respective properties for filming, and we only expect that momentum to continue growing.”
