Fuss-Free Workouts

Ric Thompson of CrossFit PTC demonstrates easy ways to foster health and joy over the holidays

Feasting and fussing seem to go hand in hand during the holidays. That is, feasting over everything in sight, and fussing over how much we should eat so as to not tip the scale in the wrong direction. Such angst is unnecessary, remarks Ric Thompson, Owner and Head Coach of CrossFit Peachtree City. “Realize that the holidays from Thanksgiving to New Years occupy only about 12% of the year.” Ric recommends practicing a mantra of three P’s - Purposeful, Present and Persistent - to guide us through guilt-free celebrations over the next couple of months.

Purposeful: Choose one time a week for you to enjoy yourself, guilt-free. Maybe it’s cocktails with friends, or lunch with colleagues.

Present: Be fully present during get togethers. You may find that your shift in focus will help you resist distractions with your phone and food.

Persistent: Find little ways to maintain your health. Planning to holiday shop? Park your car far away from the storefront. Try to reach a goal of 10,000 steps per day.

Consider simple exercises such as squats, lunges, sit-ups, push-ups and overhead presses to develop muscle, strengthen your heart and maintain healthy body composition.
