Design Perspectives

With Bethany Jones

After twelve years in healthcare operations and consulting, Bethany Jones added a new and fulfilling venture to her resume: creating homes that inspire beautiful living. As the owner of Bethany Jones Interiors, what sets her work apart is not only the end result but the process. Her ultimate goal is to guide her clients through an experience that feels natural – an enjoyable journey to their ideal home. Her signature style is livable and modern; it’s a celebration of light and life with organic neutrals, woven textures, and plenty of greenery.

When Bethany is not designing or chatting with clients, you will find her enjoying her community; lounging on the sofa with her dogs, Charlie and Lucy; or dreaming up the next long weekend with her husband. She believes the best days begin with a hot cup of coffee and end with a well-crafted martini.

The BJI studio is based in Fayetteville, GA, and accepts projects locally and throughout the Greater Atlanta Area, including Peachtree City, Fayetteville, Senoia, Newnan, and Chattahoochee Hills. We recently sat down with Bethany and got her thoughts on upcoming design trends.

DON'T BE AFRAID OF COLOR OR PATTERNS.

Consider the larger furniture pieces and keep that foundation neutral, but don't be afraid to play with color or pattern with things like pillows, paint colors or wallpaper, carpets, or lamps... things that can be changed easily. You can really play with fun colors in your space.

TEST THE TRENDS.

Our approach to design isn't to go overboard in what might be the hottest thing this year that might fall off the radar the next. But if do want to dip your toe in the water and test the trends, start with a smaller space like a powder room or laundry room. You can be creative and not stress your budget.

WHAT ARE THE TRENDS FOR 2023?

The most popular trendy items right now are woven materials like seagrass, rattan, and caning. We see it all over the place. The great thing about these materials is that they are trending but also timeless.

TELL ME ABOUT COLORS.

I find that many want earth tones and are completely relating their design aesthetic toward botanical patterns and organic, earth-tone colors. I feel like my clients want to connect with nature and bring natural materials inside their homes.

get it

It's a toss-up for me. I would say a really great sofa and really great lighting. We use our sofas all day, every day. Get something that will stand the test of time. Lighting is also a huge component in your design and can create certain moods in a home. Don't skimp on the lighting.

keep it

Pieces that tell a story and that really mean something to you. You can keep something and possibly even have it refinished if it doesn't jive with the new design. Or, we design around that piece and it becomes the shining star. That's what makes a home feel special; when you have those pieces that tell a story.

lose it

Clutter. Clutter, clutter, clutter. I am a visually sensitive person so when I do a design, it is not going to feel busy. Edit down and get rid of the clutter. It feels so good.
