The Grand Old Flag is the Star of Patriotic Porches

Decorated porches convey a sense of welcome and provide a unique opportunity to participate in the holiday celebration.

Homeowners take pride in setting the stage for Independence Day and by stage we mean the front porch. While picnics, barbecues and fireworks are the order of the day, the celebration continues with porches that have been decorated specifically to commemorate our country's independence. There's much to be seen and said about the curb appeal a beautifully decorated porch adds to a home.

From her porch bed swing, Heather Bergholt enjoys a sense of community as she takes in the sights and sounds of her neighborhood. She especially enjoys chatting with the occasional passerby and inviting friends to join her on her porch for an espresso. Heather's front porch is decorated for the July 4th holiday and every heart beats true under red white and blue as neighbors express their appreciation for the star-spangled patriotic décor.

Heather is an artist. "Color to me conveys happy and patriotic says celebrate." Decorated porches provide an opportunity to participate in the celebration and to include others - especially those who share in the love and pride for our country. Heather's color choices, flowers and LED lights, create ambiance and invite you in to reflect both personally and historically on the 244 years since the Declaration of Independence of the United States on July 4, 1776.

Patriotism and southern charm are the inspiration for Heather's patriotic porch. She was born a northern gal but has spent much of her life in the south. "True southern charm is cozy, welcoming and friendly." Heather adds, "I've always wanted my front porch to be friendly. I believe that your porch is a way to represent you and what you want to celebrate."

The front porch is an extension of the home's interior. There's a high degree of versatility when it comes to changing the themed decorations for the seasons, holidays and special occasions. Heather stresses that she and her family use her front porch everyday because its a space they all love to be in.
