Driven by Art

Leah Atkins Owner, Designer shares her story on one very special design project

Working with the Campbell family on their home was such a joy! Carole, a financial master data manager, and her husband, Marcus, a pharmacist, have three children, Marissa (22), Robert (20), and Andrew (18). Much to my surprise, Carole informed me that several designers turned down her project. When she used the word “spooky” as one of her descriptive words for her style, I was immediately drawn in! I get so excited about projects that allow me to push myself and work with a different style. We used bright colors to bring a fun and playful aspect and mixed them with dark colors, including the black formal living room, to add drama and an overall spooky vibe.

Carole also wanted to make sure that her teenage children would have artwork on her walls that represented the black community. Each piece of art tells a story, and that is my favorite part of the Campbell’s home.
