Having historical gems like Savannah just a quick drive away is a bonus of living in Atlanta. Hearing that the riverside area had been recently transformed in Plant Riverside District, I grabbed a foodie friend and headed there for a weekend to recharge.

Since we were just there for a few days, we decided to pack it all in by hitting the entertainment and nightlife right outside our door and just a trolly away. So pack a bag and grab a friend or family, because you’re in for surprises around every corner on the revitalized riverfront of Savannah!

STAY: The place to stay is JW Marriott Savannah, Plant Riverside District, and after entering the lobby it’s easy to see why it’s now considered the center of entertainment on Savannah’s revitalized riverfront area. The incredible historical transformation blends a luxury hotel converted from a previous power plant that has been meticulously restored with incredible artwork and dining alongside high-end shopping facing the waterfront. Anchored below the iconic twin smokestacks, the rooms are gorgeously outfitted. When we walked in there was a BARGE passing by just a few feet away outside the window!

SEE: Be sure to sign up for the Interactive Tour inside the JW Marriott Savannah. It’s an absolute sensory WOW with geodes, dinosaur bones, moon rocks (yes really!), and historical artifacts. You’ll find some eclectic lounges and boutiques, as well as some of the best views of the river, waterfront, and bridge.

SHOP: There is nothing I love more than unique shopping, and Savannah has TONS. All along Plant Riverside District, there are new antique, clothing, and art boutiques, with water fountains and places to sit and watch the world go by dotted along the route. Be sure to stop by 18Loves Art and say hi to local illustrator Amelia!

SIPS & SAVOR: Even my foodie chef friend Teresa couldn’t believe the culinary delights. Be sure to book ahead for Sunday’s Gospel Brunch (it’s a must-experience!) and Savannah Tequila Co. for the yummiest food and hand-crafted cocktails. End your night by “sliding” into Electric Moon Skytop Lounge (yes, they have a slide!) or stop by Myrtle & Rose's gorgeous rooftop garden. Have a bite and savor your sip while overlooking the entire waterfront.

SPIRITED: No trip to Savannah is complete without a ghost tour. Be sure to check out Ghost City's Walking Night Tour around the gardens, oak-lined streets, and haunted antebellum homes. It’s a history, city, and ghost tour in one!
