Outdoor Paradise In Memphis

Big Cypress Lodge Offers Nature-Loving Guests And Adventure Seekers An Inspiring Getaway

Located in the heart of Memphis is a one-of-a-kind, rustic retreat inspired by the great Tennessee outdoors. Known as Big Cypress Lodge, it's located inside of the 535,000-square-foot Bass Pro Shops at the Pyramid. It features 103 guest rooms, 100-foot tall trees, a swamp with live alligators and fish, the nation’s tallest freestanding elevator, numerous dining options, spectacular shopping and additional attractions.

After riding up that grandiose 28-story elevator, guests enjoy views of the Mississippi River and Memphis metro.

Big Cypress Lodge was designed by Johnny Morris, Bass Pro Shops founder/CEO, to bring the outdoors in and connect people with their love for nature. In 2005, he went fishing on the Mississippi River with Tennessee enthusiast Bill Dance, famous angler and TV show host, and Jack Emmitt, Bass Pro's first fishing manager. When they neared the then-vacant former sports arena Memphis Pyramid, Johnny quipped he’d build a store inside it if they caught a 30-pound catfish. With an hour left for fishing, Jack reeled in a monster catfish.

In 2015, after a complete renovation, Bass Pro Shops and Big Cypress Lodge opened inside the Memphis Pyramid.

One of the best atmospheres in Memphis is The Lookout At The Pyramid, Big Cypress Lodge. In the fall and spring, they open up 100 feet of sliding glass doors for a dining on the porch experience. It's magical and you can see the whole city. ~Rodrick Duran

Courtney Goff, Big Cypress Lodge marketing manager, says they host all types of occasions, including rehearsal dinners, executive meetings, gender reveals, parties and boutique weddings/receptions. "We have rooms that open to terraces and fresh air, which were a big plus during COVID concerns," she adds.

"We're an amazing one-stop-shop that's an attraction in itself, with entertainment, spa, shopping, archery and shooting range, fitness center, different live animal exhibits and our ducks," Courtney explains.

She says they also offer an on-site, interactive wetlands education museum showcasing the history of waterfowling and wetlands conservation, along with fish feeding and informational demonstrations by Bass Pro Shops staffers.

Scheduled to open inside the Lodge during late July/early August is a first-ever Wahlburgers Wild Memphis. Courtney says this wild game restaurant will share the space with the Fishbowl bowling, and will be open to both Lodge guests and the public.

The restaurant chain is owned by the Wahlberg family, including brothers Mark, Donnie and Paul Wahlberg. The chain was the subject of a reality series on A&E, running for 10 seasons and giving viewers a peek at the family's inner workings. This new location will be the chain’s first Tennessee restaurant, and its first inside a Bass Pro Shop. The new menu features wild game dishes.

Memphis is a pleasing road trip/day's drive (7 hours) from Frisco.
