Castle Rock Tourism

Putting Our Town on the Map

Since the moment I arrived in Castle Rock seven years ago, I have been simultaneously delighted by the wonder that is our town, and shocked at the lack of a focus on tourism in our Town. Having spent the last 25 years in a career centered around travel and tourism, this never made sense to me.

For a quarter of a century, I traveled the globe writing and taking photos for an international scuba diving travel magazine; writing, producing and hosting an international scuba diving travel television show, and selling tourist information kiosks to tourism boards across North America.

My wanderlust may have slowed since I arrived in Colorado, but my incredulousness at the lack of any sort of tourism board here in Castle Rock has always left me baffled. I knew from the start that I wanted to change that, but as is often the case, life gets in the way.

Well, I’ve remedied that with the creation of the Pocket Guide to Castle Rock, a good old-fashioned tourist map, which I intend to distribute to visitors to our wonderful community as well as our new residents who might not yet know their way around. It’s an advertising-driven foldable map which will be printed twice a year, and include participating businesses and organizations, in an attempt to focus tourism dollars to both the downtown core and greater Castle Rock area.

Sure, we’ve all got navigation on our GPS-enabled smartphone these days, but who doesn’t like unfurling a chart and exploring the sights and attractions of a dynamic community with an old-school map? Furthermore, the map will be as much a piece of art as it is an aid in exploration.

The town of Castle Rock has so much to offer weekenders from the Denver and Colorado Springs metros, why not help these folks find their way around? And with so many cool community events taking place — especially now that we’re slowly starting to see the light at the end of the pandemic’s tunnel — let’s help these visitors spend their hard-earned dollars in our shops, restaurants, breweries and wine bars.

The website will also serve as a complement to the map, containing advertiser business listings, important links, a calendar of events, and more. Please email castlerocktourism@gmail.com to find out how you can put your business on the map.
