Every home should include a statement piece. Something that stops guests in their tracks and elicits a “wow.” But what if every room was a statement? That lofty goal wasn’t always the plan for these Loch Lloyd homeowners, but both agreed it was time for an update, and they needed help. Enter Stephanie Stroud, of Stephanie Stroud Interiors, to lead the process.

“We were looking to hire someone who could set a vision beyond our comfort zone and who could bring us a more current design. Stephanie was a perfect match,” explains the homeowner.

The project began in the living room. The homeowners wanted a completely new look, a room not only for entertaining friends but also as a place to relax. “The living room is your focus as you enter the home, yet nothing really special was happening in the space. I knew we could make the home’s first impression a showstopper, but first we needed to address its lack of architectural features,” Stephanie says. The addition of ceiling beams, and a re-imagined fireplace wall sets the stage for ‘his and hers’ blue velvet sofas, a stone cocktail table and a stunning chandelier. What was once bland and overlooked now makes a statement.

"Once the living room was completed, it looked so great, the rest of the house paled in comparison, and it was clear we needed to keep going,” notes the homeowner.

So, what began as a refresh in the living room turned into a complete remodel of the main floor, including the kitchen, the addition of a functional mudroom, and a powder room.

To create more opportunities for entertaining, a unique bar was also added in the hallway. In addition, Stephanie incorporated a sink into an existing cabinet, added acrylic shelves, metallic wallpaper and modern crystal sconces to give the space a final dash of elegance.

Attention to Detail

Nothing in this Loch Lloyd renovation was overlooked. From the unique hardware to the custom glass fireplace tile, to the replacement of nearly all the light fixtures.

“Stephanie refers to lighting as ‘the jewelry of the home’ and I absolutely agree,” the homeowner says. “We ended up updating all of our lighting throughout the living, dining, kitchen/hearth and bedrooms, and I absolutely love all the unique design details she incorporated.” Often, it’s the finishing touches that really round out a space.

“It’s always exciting when a client wants to take a design project further,” Stephanie notes. “We especially had fun with the kitchen because the transformation was so dramatic.” Upper cabinets were removed to create an open and airy feel while blue cabinetry was selected that perfectly complements the living room’s color scheme. “My client fell in love with their kitchen countertop stone early on in our design process when we were considering it for the living room fireplace. While it did not ultimately work in that space, we used it as our jumping-off point when the kitchen design began,” Stephanie explains.

Deciding to embark on a remodeling project is sure to generate plenty of stress, second-guessing and painful concessions. But if done correctly, you just might fall in love with your home all over again.
