It’s About How We Wanted to Live

SOME SAY IT’S A TREE HOUSE. OTHERS CALL IT AN ART GALLERY. TO SHERI STAMPER AND RON BERG, THE FEEL OF THEIR HOME IS THE PERFECT COMBINATION OF ART AND NATURE.

Sheri, a VP at Siemens, and Ron, a commercial photographer/director, first started looking in Loch Lloyd in 2017 with a plan to build. After spending more time in the community, they began looking for a home on the lake.

“When we first walked in, the views of the lake, the high ceilings, and the walls of windows had us,” says Sheri.

Although they didn’t change the floor plan from the original 1995 home, Sheri and Ron put their unique touch on every surface, from the flooring and decks to the landscape, roof, doors, fixtures — even the retaining stone walls. Their vision?  To reflect their individual styles, while enhancing the home’s natural setting. “It’s not about perfection,” says Sheri. “It’s about how we wanted to live. Our lifestyle is busy with work and friends, so I think having nature as a backdrop in our lives helps keep things in perspective.”

Having amassed a large art collection over the years, the couple feature work by local artists throughout their home, including Tom Corbin, Peregrine Honig, Jeff Robinson and others. The couple also share a love of cocktails (Stamper and Berg are the original owners of SoT in the Crossroads) and pieces that have a story to tell. Favorites include barware from Ron’s grandparents and a 1904 pool table he was gifted from his landlord early on in his career.

While each main room in the house has a walk-out deck from which to appreciate the unique views, they’re best seen from the master bathroom, designed by Portfolio Kitchen (the company also designed the kitchen). “It’s like a cruise ship that doesn’t move,” explains Sheri. “All treetops and water views.”

While visitors often comment on how well the Stamper-Bergs have incorporated color in their home, it wasn’t a conscious choice. “We also like neutral pallets,” says Sheri. In fact, the kitchen and attached hearthroom are Sheri’s favorite space to capture that “cozy” feel. The home’s other inhabitants— terriers Monty and Greta, and cats Addy, Dash and Frank — love to relax in the neutral spaces, as well. “We have fur-kids,” explains Sheri, “so we want our home to feel casual and not too formal, with durability.”

“Loch Lloyd feels like a resort because of the landscape, the architecture, and the setting,” says Sheri. “But the people are what make it so special. We wish we would have moved here sooner.”

“It’s not about perfection.

It’s about how we wanted to live.”
